NIKE CAR CULTURE

Curation and design of the Nike / J. Mays’ Retrofuturism Library Exhibit and Event.

I worked in conjunction with the Nike Design Library and the Ford Design Team in Detroit to create a one-of-a-kind exhibit and event in support of the J. Mays visit to Nike. Raw steel, chrome, vinyl, and lots of black paint transformed the Nike Design Library into a space that effectively showcased the Ford vehicle models (exhibit featured in Metropolis magazine).

Curation of Nike Car Culture Trend Event and Design of Trend Reference Guide

Nike looks to the automotive industry for trends and style but had largely ignored the aftermarket trendsetters until this point. The minute a car rolls off the lot, people start customizations to make it fit their personalities. I worked with the Nike Design Library to host an event that celebrated the diversity of car culture and its impact on design.

The event featured keynote speaker Clay Dean, the Design Director for General Motors Concept Strategy. Working with local car collectors and aficionados, an on-campus auto show illustrated the diversity of car culture. A trend reference guide was designed as a takeaway. This book illustrated how core the automobile is to popular culture.
